McDonald’s has a new breakfast sandwich called the Egg White Delight. They are marketing it as being under 300 cals. Not too bad. Well I decided to make my own to see how it would compare. My version came close to the same nutrition information as the McDonald’s version.
McDonald’s
250 cals
7g fat
30g carbs
18g protein
My version
221cals
4.6g fat
28.4g carbs
28.4 g protein
As you can see my version has more protein and less fat and carbs. I looked a little closer at the McDonald’s sandwich and discovered something that is more important than calories. The INGREDIENTS. Lets compare my egg whites to theirs.
McDonald’s Egg Whites:Ingredients: Egg Whites.
Prepared with Liquid Margarine: Liquid Soybean Oil and Hydrogenated Cottonseed and Soybean Oils, Water, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Salt, Soy Lecithin, Mono-and Diglycerides, Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate (Preservatives), Artificial Flavor, Citric Acid, Vitamin A Palmitate, Beta Carotene (Color).
My Egg Whites: Ingredients: 3 organic egg whites.Prepared with olive oil.
The purpose of this post is to show you that not all calories or nutrition information is created equal. Not everything companies promote as being healthy is actually healthy. You may think you are getting just eggs, but at McDonald’s and probably lots of other restaurants you are getting a lot of additives with it too.
- 3 scrambled egg whites
- 2 slices of uncured turkey bacon
- 1/4 laughing cow swiss cheese
- basil
- olive oil spray
- 1 Thomas Multi-Grain light muffin
- salt and pepper to taste
- Separate whites from 3 whole eggs. Beat eggs and cook on skillet with olive oil; add salt and pepper.
- Cook bacon on skillet and toast muffin in toaster.
- Add cheese to muffin and assemble egg, bacon and basil on muffin.
- Enjoy!
Whoa now!! Your version looks deliciously tasty. And look at all that protein!
Thank you for airing McDonald’s dirty laundry list of ingredients.
Thanks!
