Last week I decided to do a juice cleanse, I got the bright idea from my sister who has done a few. I did some research and decided to start on a Sunday. I didn’t want to workout during my cleanse so I made sure I didn’t have any classes to teach during that time. My three day cleanse was not perfect, but I want to share with you my experience and hopefully help those who are curious about it. Before I got started I shopped for organic fruits and vegetables at Trader Joes. I looked up some recipes, but honestly didn’t write anything down. I recommend writing down everything you need, because I did run out before day three.

Day 1: Yeah, this day didn’t start off the great. Coffee is not recommended during the cleanse and I had three cups…oops. After consuming the coffee I wasn’t supposed to have I started juicing my fruits and vegetables. I made a few combinations and added them to mason jars. I made two days worth of juices. From the research I did six 6 oz juices a day with water and caffeine free tea is recommended. I measured my juice out with a shaker cup when it was time to drink one. By dinner I was really hungry and did another no- no and had some almonds. I’m going to sound like the hungry caterpillar, but I was still hungry after the almonds so I had a salad and soup. Not sure this is still considered a juice cleanse, but I pushed forward and had high hopes for day two.

Day 2: Well day 2 was very similar to day one; I had my six juices, almonds and soup. I didn’t have any coffee on this day instead I had lots of tea, which helped. Can you tell I’m not a fan of being hungry!? I did feel I had more energy and for the first time in weeks I wasn’t bloated. Since my juices would be running out at the end of the day and I still had one more day to go I ordered some juices and picked them up downtown Charleston. This really came in handy because I was tired of juicing by day two.

Day 3: This day started off great and I was confident I would stick to just juice. That was until I got hungry at noon. Not eating is a very challenging task for me. I am sure you can guess at this point how the rest of the day went.

Results: Despite still eating some food I was able to see some benefits of juicing. After day one I noticed more energy and no bloating. I lost 4-3lbs and gained 1lb once I introduced food again. My first meal after my fast was high in protein with low carbs. I now continue to drink one juice a day and notice I have more energy. If I were to juice again I would probably just do one day, three days was too much for me…I like food! There are many great benefits to juicing, it’s best to do your research and do what works best for you.

If you have juiced before what was your experience?
