This past weekend my non profit, Generation Healthy Kids hosted a Family Fitness in the Park event. The event was possible through a grant funded by the Cooper River Bridge Run. The purpose of the event was to help promote regular physical activity for the entire family and increase opportunity for participation in the Cooper River Bridge Run(CRBR) by underserved populations. The Cooper River Bridge Run is the best organized and the best conducted 10-K race in the world. It is held every year during the Spring in Charleston, SC.

The Family Fitness in the Park event took place downtown Charleston, SC at the Cool Blow Park/Simmons Playground. The event  was promoted to local schools and the community through flyers. The workout started off with Zumba, resistance band exercises and stretching.

Fabletics helped us keep the sweat out our eyes and hydrated throughout the workout by donating sweat bands and water bottles.

Warming up to Zumba was so much fun. The parents and children enjoyed it.

We finished the workout with a full body strength training routine with resistance bands.

Post workout fuel was provided by Earth Fare and Black Bean Co. Oh and those cookies from Black Bean Co. were amazing chocolate chip vegan cookies.

Overall we were able to reach 30 community members. Families came together to workout and had fun doing it. We also had some amazing volunteers from New Balance who helped bring the event together. A big thank you to the CRBR grant and all who donated.

Stay tuned for more Family Fitness in the Park events soon!
